Clyde Walkway Completed
About this route
The Clyde Walkway continues east from the Riverside Museum (Transport Museum) at Partick — the end point of the Clyde Coastal Path’s Renfrew/Govan spur — along the River Clyde toward New Lanark. Together with the Kelvin Walkway link to Milngavie, it ties into the West Highland Way and the same Milngavie station points used for legs of the John Muir Way.
It also joins the longer coastal chain from the Mull of Galloway, Loch Ryan and the Ayrshire Coastal Path through into inland Lanarkshire. Mostly good path (tar or stone), with a few urban and motorway-edge stretches and one indefinite closure near Cambuslang that forced a cycle-route diversion.

Walking days
Day 1 – Transport Museum, Partick to Uddingston (13 August 2025)
Travel — Out: walked to the start · Return: train from Uddingston
Works around Cambuslang on the walkway / N75 cycle route — followed the cycle route for a few miles between Cambuslang and Uddingston. Reports suggest the walkway is closed indefinitely in that area (unsafe buildings). Otherwise a good walk on mostly tarred path.
Day 2 – Uddingston to Shieldmuir (15 August 2025)
Travel — Out: train to Uddingston · Return: train from Shieldmuir (short walk up from the Walkway)
Good path — tarred or stoned almost all the way. A short stretch of busy urban/motorway-edge network into Strathclyde Park; the rest more than made up for it.
Day 3 – Shieldmuir to New Lanark (18 August 2025)
Travel — Out: train to Shieldmuir · Return: train from Lanark
A long, hot day — good walk but a bit on the long side (Carluke to New Lanark might split it better next time). More rural single track in places; boardwalk sections need care but were usable despite closure notices. Enjoyed the Clyde Walkway overall.
