About this route
The Mull of Galloway Trail and Loch Ryan Coastal Path together form a continuous coastal walk in the far south-west of Scotland — from the Mull of Galloway lighthouse (Scotland’s most southerly point) up the Rhins of Galloway to Stranraer, then around Loch Ryan to Glenapp.
This page is a personal record of both routes walked in 4 day stages in July 2025. Stages were planned around car, bicycle and the occasional local bus. Day 4 was walked in reverse (Glenapp → Stranraer) because there was no practical parking at Glenapp. The GPX files are derived from the Garmin-recorded line — useful as a real walked track, but not a substitute for official waymarked route files.

Day 1 – Mull of Galloway Lighthouse to Drummore (16 July 2025)
Travel — Car and Brompton bike
Cycled from Drummore to the lighthouse, walked the coast route back to Drummore, then drove the car to the lighthouse and picked up the locked bicycle.
Day 2 – Drummore to Ardwell to Sandhead (22 July 2025)
Travel — Out: car to Sandhead, then occasional local bus to Drummore · Return: car from Sandhead
Two recordings (before and after a food stop) combined into one day.
Day 3 – Sandhead to Stranraer (25 July 2025)
Travel — Out: car to Stranraer, then occasional local bus to Sandhead · Return: car from Stranraer
Day 4 – Glenapp to Stranraer (28 July 2025)
Travel — Out: car to Stranraer, then occasional local bus to Glenapp · Return: car from Stranraer
Walked the Loch Ryan Coastal Path in reverse (Glenapp → Stranraer) because there was no practical parking at Glenapp.
